American whistle-blower receives a reward of 22.5 million dollars

A former manager of the biotechnology concern Monsanto reported to the American authorities that his employer uses unfair practices in their discount programs. The reward promises for this notification amounts to almost 22.5 million dollars.

The American Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that the informer reported his former employer Monsanto for stating incorrect details about the discount program for the Roundup weed killer. The incorrect details also resulted in inconsistencies in the profit reported by Monsanto for the years 2009 to 2011.

The reward equal to 20 million euros is the second highest reward ever paid by the SEC to an informer. The reward will be financed from the 80-million-dollar fine Monsanto agreed to in February. The man’s name was not provided.
